A petition on CitizenGo.org is
calling for Disney to resist pressure to make Queen Elsa, from the animated film "Frozen," find a girlfriend in the sequel, planned for release in 2018.
"We're suggesting a much better idea … An idea that promotes solid family values to our children and represents the natural family," writes Gregory Mertz on the site "Sign our petition, now, to Disney asking that Elsa fall in love with a Prince."
Mertz uses the hashtage #CharmingPrinceForElsa in counter to the Twitter campaign, #GiveElsaAGirlfriend, an idea Mertz described as "frightening."
As of Wednesday, more than 76,000 people had signed the petition.
"Frozen," released in 2013, is the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, and has legions of young fans. Calls for Elsa to have a girlfriend in the sequel point out that no LGBT characters were in any of Disney's 11 films released in 2015.
Religious writers warned in 2014 that
they saw a secret "gay agenda" in the film.
But, the petition, argues, "Children are innocent and it is very important not to refocus the film with political messages, but rather keep to its original theme by helping children dream of eternal values, such as: love, friendship, faithfulness, loyalty, generosity, etc."
