A New York City police officer who appears to have shoved a female protestor Friday is coming under investigation after a video of the incident went viral.

An NYPD spokesperson told The Hill the department knew about the video and is reviewing the matter internally.

The probe stems from a violent protest near Barclays Center in response to the death of George Floyd while he was in custody in Minneapolis on Monday.

New York City mayor Bill de Blasio denounced the actions of the officer who pushed the female protestor to the ground, during a press conference.

"The NYPD has to do better," de Blasio said. "We cannot see a video like that. There's no reason for a video like that. It corrodes trust. There will be accountability."

During the incident, a group of NYPD officers was walking down the middle of the street. One officer pushes a female protester who walked toward him to the concrete.

"In no way was I aggressive towards this police officer, and I did not even get in his physical space," Zayer said in a Twitter video. "He was walking in my direction, told me to move, and because I didn't move out of his way in time, he threw me out of the way."

The woman is identified as Dounya Zayer and said she is the woman who pushed in the video.

This video shows her in a hospital bed after she said she had a seizure and a concussion from hitting her head on the concrete.
