Ohio PPP Poll: Obama Leads Romney by 3, Independents by 10

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has made no progress against President Barack Obama in Ohio since late June and has slipped among independent voters there, a new Public Policy Polling survey said.

A poll released Tuesday shows Obama leading Romney 48 percent to 45 percent in the crucial swing state.

Obama leads among women in the state and saw his numbers jump among independents from 42 percent in June to 49 percent. Romney slipped from 42 percent in June to 39 percent.

The poll began a couple of days before Romney picked Rep. Paul Ryan to be his running mate so the polling was unable to test an Obama-Biden, Romney-Ryan matchup.

In the poll, 51 percent said they disapproved of Obama’s job performance, with 46 percent approving.

“Barack Obama continues to hold a slight advantage in Ohio,” said Dean Debnam, president of Public Policy Polling. “But the race remains close there and it still looks very much like a swing state.”
