Michael Flynn's lawyer said transcript summaries released Friday of his 2016 conversations with the Russian ambassador prove the FBI and Department of Justice had “no reason whatsoever” to investigate him.

In an interview on Newsmax TV’s “The Chris Salcedo Show,” attorney Sidney Powell called the investigation of Flynn  “absolute lies.”

“The government has just released to Senator [Charles] Grassley [R-Iowa] … the transcripts of General Flynn's phone calls with [Russian] Ambassador [Sergey] Kislyak which show that both the FBI and the DOJ knew damn well there was no reason whatsoever to go interview General Flynn about anything,” she said.

“There was no potential Logan Act violation,” she continued, referring to a law dealing with conversations with foreign adversaries. “He simply asked them not to get into a tip for tat, and make anything worse. He asked for cool heads to prevail and to keep things on an even keel to address their common enemy in the Middle East. And he was honest with the FBI agents when he spoke to them at the time.”

Flynn pleaded guilty in December 2017 to a single count of lying to investigators, and has since fought to withdraw his plea. The Justice Department in early May moved to drop the prosecution entirely, maintaining the FBI’s interview was “conducted without any legitimate investigative basis.”

Flynn’s allies have maintained his conversations were legitimate and he was lured into a “perjury trap” by the FBI.

Powell also asserted there’s data on the original FBI summary known as a “302” that would exonerate Flynn, though she hasn’t received them yet.

“And of course we know that [former FBI agents] Peter Strzok and Lisa Page continued to add language to the 302 until it met with [former FBI Deputy Director Andrew] McCabe’s approval to proceed with a false statement,” she charged.

“It’s absolutely appalling what these people have put the country through and General Flynn through for three years. They’re absolute lies.”
