Poll: Most Americans Dread Talking Politics Over Thanksgiving Dinner

More than half of Americans say they dread the thought of talking politics over Thanksgiving dinner, but nearly 6 out of 10 Republicans are eager to do just that, according to a CNN/ORC poll released Wednesday.

The results:

  • 53 percent of Americans don't want to discuss politics.
  • 43 percent of Americans want to discuss politics.
  • 58 percent of Republicans are eager to talk politics with turkey.
  • 63 percent of Democrats want no part of it.

Of those surveyed, 60 percent thought politics would at least come up at some point, according to the poll.

Family remains the constant that Americans are thankful for, at 64 percent.

ORC conducted Interviews with 1,003 adult Americans on Nov. 17-20. The margin of sampling error for results based on the total sample is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
