Nearly eight in 10 Americans believe that 2020 has created an identity crisis for the country with nearly seven in 10 saying the year has left them feeling defeated, a nationwide poll finds.

The OnePoll survey of 2,000 Americans said 77% of Americans agreed with the statement that the past year has caused an “existential crisis” for the country, studyfinds.org reported.

Sixty-eight percent of those questioned say they are ending the year despondent with 65% having experienced a personal crisis.

The most common reason for the low ebb is the outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19, which was tagged by 63% of respondents, with the related issue of not being able to engage in activities engaged in before the declaration of health emergencies and subsequent restrictions next at 45%.

Tied with the prohibition of activities by COVID-19 at 45% was the presidential election. Thirty-five percent bemoaned the misinformation surrounding the coronavirus while another 30% lamented the 24/7 news cycle.

The survey commissioned by blender company Vejo also found that half of all respondents felt too overwhelmed to take proper care of their health and 56% have struggled to now more than ever to find a wellness routine that is effective.
