Poll: 86% Support DACA Recipients

Eighty-six percent of Americans say those in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) program should be allowed to stay in the U.S., a new ABC News/Washington Post poll reveals.

Here are the highlights of the survey:

  • 37 percent support President Donald Trump's plan to build a wall along the border with Mexico, compared to 62 percent oppose it.
  • 39 percent say they support cutting the number of legal immigrants allowed in the U.S. by half, while 55 percent are against it.
  • 45 percent say President Donald Trump's enforcement of immigration laws is too tough, compared to 30 percent who say it is about right and 22 percent who believe it is not tough enough.
  • 79 percent support requiring employers to verify new hires are in the U.S. legally, while 19 percent oppose it.

The poll, conducted Sept. 18 - 21, surveyed 1,002 adults. It has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
