Fifty-nine percent of voters oppose another government shutdown over funding for border security, a new Politico/Morning Consult poll reveals.

Thirty-three percent would support another government shutdown.

The poll was conducted prior to a bipartisan panel of lawmakers reaching agreement on a funding deal. President Donald Trump noted he is not happy with the funding agreement. But the president said he did not expect to force another shutdown.

Here are highlights from the poll:

  • 49 percent said they would blame Trump in the event of another shutdown, 37 percent would blame Democratic lawmakers and 4 percent would blame congressional Republicans.
  • 47 percent support construction of a wall on the southern border, compared to 47 percent who do not.
  • 45 percent approve of Trump’s job performance, compared to 51 percent who do not.  A Morning Consult poll released last week showed 41 percent approval for Trump and 56 percent disapproval.

The poll, conducted Feb. 7-10, surveyed 1,991 voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points.
