Police officers across the country had some fun with a news story this week that depicted a burned-out delivery truck filled with doughnuts.

The Lexington, Kentucky Police Department started the fun by posting to Twitter images of its officers pretending to mourn the loss of the doughnuts as the truck was loaded onto a flatbed.

"No words," the tweet reads. A crying emoticon followed.

That tweet was posted Monday afternoon. A host of police officers from other departments chimed in, saying things like "Condolences from Chicago" and "Hang in there, 2019 will get better."

The University of Kentucky Police Department followed with this message:

"We feel your loss. We donut know what else to say."

Krispy Kreme joined the fun Tuesday afternoon, promising to send more doughnuts.

"We're thinking of you during this difficult time . . . and have more doughnuts on the way!"

The Lexington Police Department replied, "Hope." A blue heart appeared next to the text.

According to WKYT, the truck was not actually carrying any doughnuts. The driver pulled over after he noticed smoke in the cabin. Another driver told him the truck was on fire, at which point he got out. No one was hurt in the incident.
