Planned Parenthood's Florida lobbyist will lead Sen. Elizabeth Warren's 2020 Democratic presidential campaign in the state.
Warren, D-Mass., whose polling numbers are rising in the Sunshine State, has hired Kimberly Diaz Scott as the campaign's Florida state director, the Miami Herald reports.
Diaz, 29, posted the announced on Facebook late Tuesday, saying she was departing after five years as director of public policy for the Florida Planned Parenthood Alliance.
Her role with the political organization that represents Florida's two Planned Parenthood affiliates required her to register as a lobbyist, the Herald reports.
Diaz's hiring by the Warren campaign is believed to be the first of a Florida director by a 2020 Democratic presidential contender, according to the Herald.
"I won't be far from the movement, as I'm humbled and proud to announce my transition as the Florida State Director for Warren for President, assuring that we will continue to fight like hell to elect a brilliant leader who will work to protect the health, safety and future of ALL people," Diaz wrote on Facebook, the Herald reports. "2020 is not for the rich or selfish, 2020 is for us."
Neither Diaz nor Warren's campaign responded to requests from the Herald for comment.
During the Florida 2014 gubernatorial campaign, Diaz served as Central Florida regional director for Democrat Charlie Crist's campaign against Rick Scott.
Diaz also served as chief of staff to the office of the Florida Senate.
The Sunshine State holds its primary March 17.
