The mouthpiece recently hired to put a positive spin on Planned Parenthood's organ-harvesting scandal has a rather notorious client in his past.
LifeSiteNews reports former Wall Street Journal reporter Glenn Simpson — now "chief spokesman for exonerating Planned Parenthood" — is the co-founder of Fusion GPS, which has been described in the media as an "independent research firm."
But in reality, it is a "Democratic-leaning political opposition research firm whose founder was once the registered lobbyist of a Middle Eastern sheikh known for burning the American flag during a time of war," says the website, a non-profit "dedicated to issues of culture, life, and family."
Simpson was hired to help Sheikh Khalid bin Saqr Al Qasimi regain power as ruler of an emirate of the United Arab Emirates. The sheikh reportedly made news by having an American flag burned to protest the U.S. invasion of Iraq.
And in 2009, the sheikh — now returned to power — met Hillary Clinton, Gen. Wesley Clark, and a number of Congressmen before President Obama's inauguration in 2009.
Simpson has also "led efforts to smear a private businessman who supported traditional marriage" and made allegations that led to a "witch hunt" against the Christian Coalition, LifeSiteNews reports.
According to the website, Simpson and Larry Sabato — founder and director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia and editor of the electoral projections site Sabato's Crystal Ball — investigated the Christian Coalition's voter guides for a book they co-authored.
They believed the Christian Coalition "deliberately favored Republicans by substituting conflicting issues for areas where both candidates agreed."
Simpson also charged the coalition's voter guides "one of the real pernicious developments in recent years" and said the group was a "big-donor program is shrouded in secrecy," the website said.
The allegations "proved pivotal" when the Federal Election Commission under President Bill Clinton filed a civil complaint against the group for misconduct in the 1990, 1994, and 1996 elections. Helping in those efforts was Lois Lerner, later to become embroiled in the tea-party targeting scandal at the IRS, according to LifeSiteNews.
Planned Parenthood has been under fire for the alleged organ-harvesting of aborted fetuses, which came to light in a series of undercover videos.
