Pelosi Grateful Trump's Safe After Rally Shooting

By    |   Saturday, 13 July 2024 10:28 PM EDT

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., expressed relief after apparent gunfire disrupted former President Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, emphasizing that "political violence of any kind has no place in our society."

Pelosi, known for her staunch opposition to political violence, drew on personal experience in condemning the incident, recalling an attack on her husband two years ago in San Francisco, The Hill reported.

"As one whose family has been the victim of political violence, I know firsthand that political violence of any kind has no place in our society," Pelosi said in a post on X, referring to the attack on her husband, Paul Pelosi, at their San Francisco home two years ago.

"I thank God that former President Trump is safe. As we learn more details about this horrifying incident, let us pray that all those in attendance at the former President's rally today are unharmed."

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., echoed Pelosi's sentiments, offering thoughts and prayers for Trump's safety and commending law enforcement for their rapid response.

"I am thankful for the decisive law enforcement response," he said. "America is a democracy. Political violence of any kind is never acceptable."
