Paul Ryan: Scalise 'Doing a Lot Better,' Is Talking, Texting

House Speaker Paul Ryan on Tuesday said that Majority Whip Steve Scalise is "doing a lot better" and has resumed talking and texting.

Speaking at a manufacturing conference in D.C., Ryan said he had just seen Scalise last Friday.

"It's going to take some more surgeries, but he's responding, he's breathing on his own, he's talking," Ryan said. "He grabbed somebody's phone and started texting away. So he's doing a lot better. Please keep him in your prayers."

House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said he had a good conversation with Scalise on Tuesday morning, the Washington Examiner reported.
