House Speaker Paul Ryan admitted Wednesday that Republicans will face criticism over their healthcare bill which passed the lower chamber earlier this month.
"I'll accept that we will get hit for this," Ryan said at an event for Axios. "But we're in leadership. We don't have a choice . . . What are we supposed to do, just sit back and let this thing collapse?"
He added that despite this, he thinks the GOP's chances to retain their majority in the House are "excellent because we're in the midst of keeping our promises. What I tell our members is if we don't do our jobs or keep our word, why would people support us."
The Congressional Budget Office is set to release its evaluation of the American Health Care Act on Wednesday. Its analysis of the original bill estimated that 24 million more people would be uninsured in the next 10 years.
The American Action Network, an Republican group aligned with Ryan, launched a $2 million ad campaign Tuesday in preparation for the CBO's report, defending the bill from critics. The ad will play in 21 House districts and nationally on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."
