Paul Manafort, who served as Donald Trump's campaign manager, is facing yet another money-laundering investigation, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.

The new probe is being conducted by the Manhattan U.S. attorney's office, the Journal reported, quoting three anonymous sources, and is being conducted in conjunction with the federal investigation headed by FBI special counsel Robert Mueller.

Manafort is also the subject of a New York State money-laundering probe led by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. That investigation also is being conducted in cooperation with Mueller's.

Manafort declined to comment, but has previously denied wrongdoing. Trump also has said none of his campaign staff acted improperly during the election.

Manafort resigned as Trump's campaign chairman in August 2016 amid press reports he had received off-the-book payments of $12.7 million from a Ukrainian political party.

The Manhattan probe is ongoing as Trump is interviewing candidates to head up the office. He also is interviewing candidates to lead the Brooklyn U.S. attorney's office which is investigating Kushner Cos., owned by the family of Trump's son-in-law and White House adviser Jared Kushner.

Trump has personally interviewed Edward McNally for the Brooklyn job and Geoffrey Berman for Manhattan, the Journal quoted sources.

McNally is a law partner of Trump's personal attorney Marc Kasowitz, while Berman is a law partner of Trump ally Rudolph Giuliani.

Former Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, whom Trump fired earlier this year, called Trump's close involvement in the process "neither normal nor advisable."
