Parkland, Florida's Temple of Time, designed to help a community mourn the tragic Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooting, is going up in ceremonial flames Sunday night, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

The 35-foot high structure was opened Feb. 14, one year after the school shooting, and its memorials will be set ablaze by 17 people to honor the 17 people killed and 17 more injured.

"The temple is magnificent, a very powerful tribute – the ultimate in creativity and heart," Linda Grigg, a retired teacher from nearby Margate, told the Sun-Sentinel.

"That's how you begin anew. That's how you take away the pain and the horror. You've got to burn it."

The temple was designed as a temporary structure to remember the pain and loss, and while Mary Vegotsky and her 4-year-old daughter of Coral Springs enjoyed visiting it, she understands the need to let the grief go.

"I wanted her to experience the temple," the mother told the paper. "It's so beautiful, but if it stayed here I think it would bring out more grief. Coming here makes you appreciate life. And it makes you realize there are still good people in the world.

". . . It was very somber but loving, like we can overcome this. We can overcome the grief and come together as a community."
