Olivia Newton-John is battling cancer for the third time and says she does not want doctors to tell her how much time she has left. The singer has stage 4 breast cancer.

Speaking to "60 Minutes Australia," the 70-year-old actress spoke about her hopes, fears, and reasons for choosing not to know her life expectancy.

"When you're given a cancer diagnosis or a scary, honest diagnosis, you're suddenly given a possibility of a time limit," Newton-John said, according to USA Today.

Believing this prognosis could bring it into reality, she said.

"If somebody tells you, you have six months to live, very possibly you will because you believe that. So for me, psychologically, it's better not to have any idea of what they expect, or what the last person that has what you have lived, so I don't tune in."

The "Grease" star is battling cancer for the third time in three decades.

She was forced to halt her busy schedule after first being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992. Newton-John beat the cancer and became an advocate for fighting the disease, but in 2013 she was again sidelined by the illness.

After a fierce battle, she once again confirmed last year she was undergoing radiation treatment for her third bout of cancer.

In January, reports sparked widespread speculation Newton-John was close to death, but she quickly put an end to those rumors with a video posted to social media in which the four-time Grammy Award winner assured fans she was doing great.

Despite her positive public demeanor, Newton-John told "60 Minutes Australia," she found the reports upsetting. She coped by disassociating herself from the cancer.

"You just live your life and do what you have to do to get through," she said.

Newton-John might not know how long she has left but added, death is "long away."
