As President Donald Trump engaged in a Sunday tweetstorm, and a global security conference convened in Germany, U.S. officials are telling "Europe’s foreign policy elite to "pay no attention to the man tweeting behind the curtain," The Washington Post reported.

"There is a lot more support for continuing our past policies than it might appear from some of the statements," Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., told the Munich Security Conference on Sunday, per the Post. "The unanimity comes from those folks who are actually operationalizing policy."

The message – shared publicly and privately at the conference this weekend, according to the report – stressed the U.S.:

  1. "Remains staunchly committed to its European allies."
  2. "Is furious with the Kremlin about election interference."
  3. "Isn’t contemplating a preemptive strike on North Korea."

Trump, though, has taken to Twitter this weekend to defile some of that messaging, especially with regard to Russian interference:

"The values are the same, the relationships are the same," Rep. Michael R. Turner, R-Ohio, said, per the Post. "What you do see is this administration willing to put pressure upon the systems."

German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel told the conference Saturday it has led to some global uncertainty toward U.S. policy.

"Is it deeds? Is it words? Is it tweets?" Gabriel asked, according to the Post.
