On the same day former President Barack Obama urged Americans to sign up for healthcare plans under the Affordable Care Act, the website that handles signups received its highest traffic yet during the current open-enrollment season.

The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released a statement Tuesday afternoon that provided an update to Obamacare enrollment, which closes Dec. 15.

"As in past years, we have seen an uptick in the volume of consumers using Healthcare.gov and contacting our call center as we get closer to the Dec. 15 deadline to select a plan for the upcoming year. [Monday], we experienced the highest traffic of this Open Enrollment," a CMS spokesman said.

"With the exception of a brief waiting room on Dec. 10, the website has performed well, consumers have been able to easily access enrollment tools to compare plans and prices, and the call center consumer satisfaction rate has remained at 90 percent."

Obama tweeted his support for the healthcare law Monday and tried to push people to visit healthcare.gov to pick a plan and sign up for 2019 coverage:

"No jump shots. No ferns. No memes. Not this time. I'm going to give it to you straight: If you need health insurance for 2019, the deadline to get covered is December 15. Go to HealthCare.gov today and pass this on — you just might save a life."
