A majority of Americans are opposed to the United States taking action in Ukraine while most believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin has the upper hand in the war-torn country, a new polls reveals.
The Fox News poll shows that by a margin of nearly two to one, 61 to 32 percent, voters say that the United States should not get more involved in Ukraine following the shooting down of a Malaysia Airlines passenger plane, killing 298 people. The margin in a May poll was 65 percent to 25 percent against.
When it comes to party affiliation, 42 percent of Republicans wanted more support for Ukraine while only 31 percent of independents and 26 percent of Democrats wanted greater action in the country, according to
Fox News analysis of the poll.
The survey also showed that 56 percent of Americans don’t approve of President Barack Obama’s foreign policies, including his position on Ukraine. His approval stands at 36 percent, up from a record low of 32 percent last month.
A majority of Americans believe that Putin has gained the upper hand over Obama in the region, with 88 percent of Republicans, 75 percent of independents and 64 percent of Democrats feeling that way.
The poll of 1,057 registered voters nationwide was conducted from July 20-22, and has a margin of error of 3 points.
