Two senior Obama administration officials reportedly refused to appear before Congress on Tuesday to explain why the White House purges references to "Islamic terrorism" and radicalism from public documents.

The Senate Judiciary oversight subcommittee, headed by Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz, had advertised testimony from both John Carlin, head of the Justice Department's national security division, and Michael Steinbach, executive assistant director of the FBI's national security branch.

Both declined.

"No one from this administration is even willing to show up and defend their scrubbing of anti-terror materials," Cruz told the Senate chamber, which was packed with Muslim activists and others critical of Cruz's stance, The Hill reports.

"The administration has had over and over again ample evidence to step in and prevent these terrorists attacks, but the consequence of a willful blindness — of a policy that, as a matter of administration policy refused to acknowledge the threats — means that over and over again, this administration has allowed the threat to go forward."

"We cannot defeat radical Islamic terrorist without acknowledging it exists and directing our resources to stop it."

In the past year the Obama administration has twice ordered that mentions of the terror group ISIS and "Islamic terrorism" be purged "from highly significant public records,"Cruz said, The Washington Free Beacon reports.

One was after the June 12 mass slayings in Orlando, Fla., when the FBI redacted references to ISIS and leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi from a transcript of the 911 call made by gunman Omar Mateen.

The Justice Department changed course following a backlash and released the full transcript.

Muslim advocacy groups also forced the FBI to purge some 876 documents from its training materials because they were deemed "offensive"in March 2012, Cruz charged, according to the Free Beacon.
