The head of the union that represents detectives in the New York City Police Department slammed progressive politics in a new interview.

Appearing on Sunday's "The Cats Roundtable" radio show, Detectives' Endowment Association president Michael Palladino told host John Catsimatidis that progressives are bringing down society.

"I see progressives as really being regressive. Racing to the bottom. Lowering the behavioral bar to enable the lawless," Palladino said. "I would think if your goal was to help people progress in life, you would introduce ways that would help them reach up to the bar, not by lowering the bar or lowering the standards.

"I can't see any benefits from a progressive government if you are law-abiding. Progressives strike me as not being fans of quality of life."

Palladino then rattled off some examples of New York City laws that have been rolled back, which he said are making things worse.

"There's no accountability for urinating in public or jumping turnstiles. Or the concepts like 'no bail, no jail.' Glorify the criminals. Demonize authority. Legalization of recreational marijuana. … To me, decriminalization just really equates with not being held accountable for your actions," he said.

"There are no consequences. This type of government, or maybe culture is the correct word, embraces the mentality of 'what's real is fake, and what's fake is real.' Let's ignore the facts. Create a myth. Perpetuate it. And then have the myth replace the truth. But to accomplish that you need a scapegoat. And nowadays the scapegoat is the police."
