Four NYC police officers have been hailed as heroes in Monday's pipe bomb blast after they subdued the suspect.

Officers Sean Gallagher, Drew M. Preston, John "Jack" F. Collins and Anthony Manfredini were identified by the Port Authority Police Benevolent Association (PAPBA) for their role diffusing the situation, CNN reported.

"Today, four courageous Port Authority police officers risked their lives confronting an armed terrorist to protect others from harm," PAPBA president Paul Nunziato said in a statement.

"I am so thankful there was no loss of life and I could not be prouder of our Port Authority police officers, their actions and dedication to their sworn duty."

The incident occurred when 27-year-old Akayad Ullah allegedly detonated the explosive device that was strapped to his chest on Monday morning in an underground walkway beneath the bus terminal, according to CNN.

The explosions triggered chaos and widespread panic as commuters rushed to find an exit, but the four officers ran against the hordes of people to find the suspect.

The apprehending officer, Collins, was working his usual routine looking for child traffickers at the Port Authority Bus Terminal when the explosion occurred, WABC-TV reported.

He rushed to where the bomb had detonated and, with the help of the other three officers, arrested Ullah at gunpoint.

Port Authority Chairman Kevin O'Toole praised the four officers.

"Thanks to the quick response of these brave Port Authority Police officers, the suspect was apprehended, there were no serious injuries and the PABT was secured without further incident," he said, per WABC-TV. "Our officers responded immediately and put themselves in harm's way to protect the public."
