With a Republican majority in Congress and Donald Trump soon to be in the White House, the National Rifle Association has big plans to push an aggressive gun-friendly agenda, The Wall Street Journal reported.
According to the Journal, the NRA has four big targets and initiatives:
- Appointment of gun-friendly Supreme Court justice.
- Concealed-carry permits be recognized in all 50 states regardless of state of issue.
- Do away with permits entirely.
- Undo President Obama's executive actions that make it harder to buy guns.
"People are turned into criminals because of the confusing patchwork of laws around this country," NRA spokeswoman Jennifer Baker told the WSJ. "Law-abiding citizens should be able to exercise their constitutional right regardless of what state they're sitting in."
The NRA was an ardent supporter of Trump's, pouring $21 million into advertising promoting him, the WSJ reported. And Trump has reciprocated that support for gun owners, promising complete protection and restoration of the 2nd amendment.
And now the NRA is looking to reap the benefits after 8 years of being stymied in the White House.
"Obama spent eight years in office chipping away at the second amendment, through agencies at all levels of government," Baker told the WSJ. "It'll take some time to figure out what things need fixing."
