Herbert Hoover is seen in a color film for the first time after footage of the 31st president was recently discovered, CBS News reports.

The film was uncovered by the Hoover Presidential Library and was taken sometime in the late 1920, according to the network news. It apparently came from home movies taken by then-First Lady Lou Hoover.

For years, the film was thought to have been shot in black-and-white. It wasn't until a library archivist viewed it, that officials realized the importance of the film.

"It was like opening a door and going back in a time machine," said Lynn Smith, the audiovisual archivist at the library museum who made the discovery, according to The Washington Post.

Hoover was president from 1929 to 1933.

In the film, Hoover is shown exercising on the White House lawn. Hoover' grandchildren are also seen in the footage as are gardeners working on the grounds of the White House and the family dogs. The film is believed to be the earliest color footage of the White House, according to CBS News.
