Three House primary elections taking place this week could shed light on which party will control the lower chamber after the upcoming 2024 general election, Roll Call reported.
Two Democrats looking to unseat Rep. Brandon Williams, R-N.Y. — state Sen. John Mannion and Dewitt Town Councilor Sarah Klee Hood — will face off on Tuesday, as will John Avlon, a former political analyst for CNN who co-founded the No Labels organization, and former chemistry professor Nancy Goroff, who are both running for the Democrat nomination to face New York Rep. Nick LaLota, a Republican.
Klee Hood currently holds more cash on hand than Mannion, with a reported $ 279,000 as of June 5, about $70,000 more than Mannion’s reported $206,000. Williams, who has no primary challenger, has about $1 million in cash on hand in a race that the Cook Political Report rates as Lean Democrat.
Goroff, whose campaign is partly self-funded, raised about $1.1 million and contributed about $1.2 million of her own money, entering the final week before the election with about $595,000 in cash on hand.
Avlon managed to raise $1.8 million, about $1.6 million of which came from the Democrat-supporting group Welcome PAC, entering this week with about $585,000. The Cook Political Report rates this race as Likely Republican.
In Colorado on Tuesday, two Republicans are competing for the party’s nomination to take on Democrat Rep. Yadira Caraveo: state Rep. Gabe Evans and former state Rep. Jana Joshi.
Evans raised over $646,000 as of June 5, leaving him with $225,000 in cash on hand, while Joshi amassed $189,000 including $153,000 that he provided to the campaign himself, for $82,000 in cash on hand. Caraveo, who has no primary challenger, has raised about $2.3 million. The Cook Political Report rates this race as a toss up.
