Navy SEAL Who Claims He Took Out bin Laden: 'He Died Afraid'

When it came time for him to die, Osama bin Laden, the feared al-Qaida terrorist leader who murdered nearly 3,000 people on Sept. 11, 2001 "died like a p…y."

The statement comes from former Navy SEAL Robert O'Neill, who claims to be the man who killed bin Laden in the May 2, 2011 raid on bin Laden's Pakistani compound.

Now a motivational speaker, O'Neill told the New York Post, “When I’m out speaking, I never mention the bin Laden mission. But any time anyone says, 'You know, my brother died at Cantor Fitzgerald,' one thing I tell them is, 'All right, Osama bin Laden died like a p…y. That’s all I’m telling you. Just so you know.'

"He died afraid. And he knew that we were there to kill him."

O'Neill has been criticized for going public with his claim that he shot bin Laden twice in the head, first in an interview with Esquire Magazine, in which he was referred to only as "The Shooter," and later when he went public on Fox News.

Former SEAL Matt Bissonnette is under investigation for allegedly disclosing classified information in his 2012 book, "No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama Bin Laden," The Washington Post reported.

Both Bissonnette and O'Neill are considered to have violated the SEAL ethos, "I do not advertise the nature of my work, nor seek recognition for my actions," Rear Adm. Brian L. Losey, commander of Naval Special Warfare Command, and Force Master Chief Michael L. Magaraci noted in a letter, The Washington Post reported.

Threatening legal action, the letter states, "Violators of our ethos are neither teammates in good standing, nor teammates who represent Naval Special Warfare. We do not abide willful or selfish disregard for our core values in return for public notoriety and financial gain, which only diminishes otherwise honorable service, courage and sacrifice."

O'Neill, striking back, said, "The team got him. It was a successful mission. Regardless of the negativity that comes with it, I don’t give a f..k. We got him. We brought him out, and we lived. And that obviously will go down historically, but I don’t care if I’m 'The Shooter.' And there are people who think I’m not. So whatever," The Guardian reported.

O'Neill told CNN: "You only know what you were told unless you were in the room. And unfortunately for me, there were two people in the room, and one of us is dead and that's Osama bin Laden."

He told the Guardian he had no doubt that the U.S. defense establishment wanted bin Laden dead, not captured.

"Why did they send Seal Team Six to get Osama bin Laden and not Delta
Force? Because they wanted him dead. (Delta Force) captured Saddam. Great

"We killed Osama bin Laden."
