National Rifle Association spokeswoman Dana Loesch blasted social media platforms after someone appeared to threaten her children on Twitter.
Following the shootings in Jacksonville, Fla on Sunday, someone had tweeted:
“The only way these people learn is if it affects them directly," the user posted on Twitter. So if Dana Loesch had to have her children murdered before she’ll understand, I guess that what needs to happen."
She reported the posting to Twitter and was told it did not violate the social media’s terms of service. Later, however Twitter reversed itself and said it did violate its terms and locked out the user.
Loesch appeared on TV’s "Fox & Friends" on Tuesday and was critical of social media platforms for inconsistent actions against those who make similar threats.
"My biggest thing in all of this is that I just want social media platforms to treat users consistently," she said. "We just had a horrible tragedy take place and we have families that are still grieving. And individuals feel it is some form of advocacy to go out and continue to add to the nastiness and to the hate of the political environment by making remarks like these towards other individuals."
She claimed other conservative women have fallen victim to similar threats on social media.
"We have to deal with situations where you have crazy people running amok on Twitter and Twitter having inconsistent applications of terms of service," she said. "And that’s what this comes down to."
