Football player Colin Kaepernick's National Anthem protests would not have been tolerated a few decades ago, Hall of Fame fullback Franco Harris said in a new interview.

Harris, who played during the 1970s and 1980s, spoke with Mediaite's John Ziegler and was asked about Kaepernick's protests that have spread to other players across the league.

"We had two of the meanest guys in football, who I think would've dealt with it that way, and that would've been Joe Greene and Jack Lambert," Harris said.

Regarding players exercising their First Amendment right, Harris said there's a line.

"If someone has a certain stance they want to take, that's fine," Harris said. "When he puts that suit on, it's not just about him, his position and the things that he wants to back and wants to believe in, because the team has to come first."

Kaepernick made headlines last year when he began taking a knee during the playing of the National Anthem before games to protest what he saw was racial injustice and inequality. Other players have since followed, even though Kaepernick is currently out of work.
