Progressives are angry with Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., for the decision to push a $4.6 billion emergency funding bill for the southern border through the House, The Hill is reporting.

The progressives maintained the legislation, which already had been passed by the Senate, did not impose tough enough requirements to make certain that migrants are fed and sheltered at a reasonable standard, according to The Hill.

In an interview with The New York Times, Pelosi dismissed criticism from Reps. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass.

“All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world," Pelosi said, "but they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got."

But Ocasio-Cortez, in a tweet, fired back: “That public ‘whatever’ is called public sentiment.”

The Hill noted the Progressive Change Campaign Committee launched a fundraising effort blasting Pelosi’s criticism of Ocasio-Cortez.

And Rep. Raúl Grijalva, D-Ariz., former co-chairman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, said that taking up the Senate version of the bill was “a mistake.”

“By not being firm enough with (the Department of Homeland Security) ... you continue to weaponize that department to serve Trump and Trump only,” said Grijalva.

The Hill noted Grijalva and other progressives also are angry with the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, a coalition of moderate Republicans and Democrats. Lawmakers in the caucus have signed a pledge to vote together on issues where 75 percent of the group, and 51 percent of both the Republicans and Democrats in the group, agree.
