CNN: Mueller Team Down to 15 Lawyers After Two Departures

Two lawyers have departed special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe team, which is now comprised of 15 members digging into claims of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

The Department of Justice confirmed to CNN that prosecutors Ryan Dickey and Brian Richardson left Mueller's team of lawyers at some point this summer. The DOJ would not give a specific date, but special counsel spokesman Peter Carr said the departures had nothing to do with politics, bias, or wrongdoing.

Richardson joined Mueller's team after a clerkship with Supreme Court Associate Justice Stephen Breyer and is now a research fellow at Columbia Law School, CNN reported. Dickey arrived at Mueller's team via the DOJ's criminal division and has returned to the department in some capacity other than the special counsel's office.

President Donald Trump has bashed the Mueller probe on a near-daily basis since it began in May 2017. This week, he called it an "illegal" investigation.
