Harry Reid attacked and Mitch McConnell defended a House bill to appropriate $1.1 billion to fight the Zika virus, The Hill reports.

Angered that it fell short of President Barack Obama's $1.9 billion request and how it's going to get paid for, the Senate minority leader ripped into the GOP-led House. The legislation provides just $400 million in new spending, The Hill reported.

"It's a disgrace," The Hill quoted Senate Minority Leader Reid as saying. "It's a mockery of how Congress should treat an emergency."

However, Majority Leader McConnell said the House did its job.

The bill "represents our only chance to put Zika control money to work right now," The Hill quoted McConnell as saying. "The House did its part. Now the Senate needs to do its part."

The bill was passed 239-171 late Wednesday over the protests of Democrats, who were engaged in their sit-in over gun-control inaction.
