Huckabee: Don't Bet on Biden Disrupting Clinton Campaign

Fox News' "Fox & Friends."

GOP candidate Mike Huckabee said Tuesday that he's known Bill and Hillary Clinton "all my life," and warned watchers that the former secretary of state will remain strong if Vice President Joe Biden enters the campaign to battle her for the nomination.

"People need to realize, these are incredibly gifted, talented and ruthless political players," Huckabee, who like Bill Clinton is a former Arkansas governor, told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program.

"I know everybody talks about all the problems. Look, I have dealt with the Clintons in a political way for over 26 years ... anybody who says, well Joe gets into the race and everything changes, and Hillary's in trouble, don't bet on it."

Many political watchers are saying that if Biden enters the race, it would turn it into a campaign between outgoing President Barack Obama and Clinton, who challenged him in 2008 for the Democratic nomination, but Huckabee has mixed feelings about that.

"I don't think anybody pretends that Obama and Bill Clinton and/or Hillary Clinton are big buds and go hang out together and watch football on the weekends," he said. "I believe deep down Obama would rather see Biden follow him up. But it won't be his choice."

Further, Biden would be entering the race late as "an affable guy, but also a 'gaffable' guy," said Huckabee. "That's one of the things that will start being a problem. When he's vice president he makes some of these crazy statements people sort of shrug it off and laugh and it's funny. When you're a candidate for president, everything you say will be twisted, turned, spun a thousand different ways, and it's a whole different animal at that point."

Meanwhile, Huckabee said he's optimistic about his own chances, especially in Iowa, where he said he is working the same way he did in 2008.

"Eight years ago we were outspent 10 to one. and I won with the largest number of votes that has ever been received by an Iowa caucus voter, or contest in the entire history of the Iowa caucus," he said. "What you have to do is to build a ground game. You have to get people."
