Potential presidential contender Mike Huckabee has denounced President Barack Obama
for comparing the "terrible misdeeds" of Christians centuries ago to the atrocities carried out by the Islamic State.
Calling Obama’s controversial comments at the National Prayer Breakfast last week "nothing short of shocking," the former Arkansas governor said on "Fox and Friends" that Obama was overprotective of the Muslim community.

"Everything he does is against what Christians stand for, and he’s against the Jews in Israel," Huckabee said, according to reports. "The one group of people that can know they have his undying, unfailing support would be the Muslim community.
"He can be defensive of moderate Muslims
and still be very clear in saying that the fanatical Muslims are the heart and soul of the war that is raging across the world."
During his speech, Obama said that the Islamic State was "a brutal vicious death cult that, in the name of religion, carries out unspeakable acts of barbarism."
But he added: "Lest we get on our high horse and think that this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ."
Huckabee, who is expected to run in the GOP race for the White House in 2016, has joined the chorus of politicians, conservative commentators and religious leaders who have lashed out at Obama’s statement.
"This president has a high horse himself
— it’s his teleprompter," said Huckabee.
"How on Earth he could go back 1,000 years in history and pick up something that Christians did in response to Muslim aggression and somehow blame Christians for the burning of a Jordanian pilot, for the cutting off the heads of children who are Christians? It's just absolutely stunning to me."
Huckabee added, "[Obama] said our greatest threat was climate change! I assure you that a beheading is much worse than a sunburn.
"This president couldn’t watch a western from the ’50s and know the difference between the good guys and the bad guys, even if John Wayne was starring in the film."
