Facebook's chief operating officer is giving the Russia investigation the attention it deserves, Rep. Mike Conaway, R-Texas, said Wednesday after the House Intelligence Committee announced it would release the 3,000-plus ads the social media site sold to a Russian troll farm during the presidential election.

Facebook is under increasing pressure from Washington to address meddling in the election and has been asked to testify before Congress on the issue Nov. 1.

Sheryl Sandberg and Facebook are "leaning into this issue," Conaway said.

Sandberg on Wednesday met with Conaway and Rep. Adam Schiff, and was also slated to meet with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., later in the day. She will later this week join members of the Congressional Black Caucus regarding race-related Facebook ads.

A group known as the Internet Research Agency, which U.S. intelligence says is a "state-funded organization that blogs on tweets on behalf of the Kremlin,” purchased the ads, which focused on racial issues, the LGBT movement, gun rights, and illegal immigrants.

At least one ad appeared in late 2015 and claimed to speak for Black Lives Matter, according to a report in CNN. The ad was targeted to reach audiences in Ferguson and Baltimore, where protests against police violence have taken place.

Sandberg is trying to demonstrate that Facebook is cooperating and serious about the investigation.

"I think they are certainly taking it seriously," Conaway added. "And they know we're all taking it seriously."
