Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich had some advice for ex-New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg after his "pathetic" debate performance in Las Vegas last week — watch President Donald Trump's 2016 presidential debates.
"Trump would have mopped (up) the floor the other night, and Bloomberg was a punching bag," Gingrich told Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "This is why Trump always counterpunches. You're never going to get a free shot at Trump. He's going to come at you as hard as he can."
The former speaker added that he had thought the Democrats would end up having a brokered convention this summer because they would have a hard time picking a nominee, but not after seeing Bloomberg on stage.
"Bloomberg was so pathetic the other night, I don't think his ads can cover up how bad he was," Gingrich said. "Bloomberg was like a little kid who suddenly showed up and the playground people weren't nice to him."
Gingrich also criticized front-runner Sen. Bernie Sanders, comparing him to other far-left people such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
"They talk in visionary terms that have no factual meaning," said Gingrich. "Sanders could never deliver on the things he's promising, but frankly to his followers they don't care. Then he at least offers them hope. He's exciting."
The former speaker also commented on Trump's visit to India, noting that the country's Prime Minister Narendra Modi is "very similar" to the resident.
"India is obviously very, very different from us, but nonetheless, Modi is trying to modernize it, trying to bring it into a more aggressive economic stance and I suspect they will have a very practical conversation," said Gingrich.
India is also very concerned about China's influence in Sri Lanka.
"They loaned them a lot of money, and they couldn't pay it back, so they gave the Chinese a naval base," said Gingrich. "They do not want the Indian Ocean to become like the South China Sea.
