Michael Savage has been nominated for the National Radio Hall of Fame in the category of Spoken Word On-Air Personality, and public voting runs through June 30.

Savage, host of the nationally syndicated "The Savage Nation" reaches more than 200 markets across the country and is the author of four New York Times best-selling books, according to his website.

On Facebook, Savage urged his listeners to vote by texting "Savage" to 36500.

"For more than 22 years, Savage has been a pioneer in the spoken word," read the Facebook post. "His message of borders, language, and culture have resonated with millions of listeners on a daily basis. This year, listeners have a direct voice on who should be inducted into the Hall of Fame."

Inductees will be announced by the Hall of Fame on July 11, and will be formally inducted during a ceremony on Nov. 17 at the Museum of Broadcast and Communications in Chicago.

"The listener response we received last year since reinstituting the public voting process after a five-year hiatus was overwhelmingly positive," Kraig T. Kitchin, the National Radio Hall of Fame chairman said, according to Talkers.com. "Fans want to engage and be a part of the process, which is a tribute to the dynamic personalities of each show."

In addition to his radio achievements, Savage has a master's degree in medical botany and a second in medical anthropology, along with his doctorate in epidemiology and nutrition sciences from the University of California, Berkeley, according to his website.

Other nominees include Diane Rehm of National Public Radio's "The Diane Rehm Show," sportscaster Mike Francesa, Chris Russo of the former "Mike and the Mad Dog" show, and Sean Hannity of "The Sean Hannity Show," according to the Hall of Fame and Talkers.com.

Savage's fans responded positively to the radio host's call on social media.
