God is "omnipresent" and makes his presence felt but allows humans free will, author and conservative radio host Michael Savage told Newsmax TV.

During an appearance on "Newsmax Now," Savage told host Bill Tucker he has been searching for God his entire life.

"Because I've been searching for God ever since I've been a little boy, as anyone with a conscience or mind will do," Savage said when asked why he wrote his latest book, "God, Faith, and Reason."

"I came to the conclusion a long time ago — which I share with my readers in 'God, Faith, and Reason' — which is that God is omnipresent. I believe he is everywhere. Leaves on a tree, a newborn baby crying, a cloud, a dog, a this, a that, an insect."

Savage then wondered aloud why bad things happen to good people and why children are stricken with cancer.

"God is omnipresent in his creation but we have free will. He's not omnipotent. He doesn't control us. And if I believed God was omnipotent and controlled everything, then I would have to believe God is evil for hurting so many innocent people," Savage said.

Savage provided an example he said illustrates God's presence, explaining that he had a dream in which he was talking about how helium can be used to help cure cancer.

"I don't know where it came from, so I woke up and I looked up helium and anti-cancer research, it turns out there's a whole thread of thought on using helium to treat cancer," Savage said. "The point is, where do our ideas come from?

"I get them through dreams, I get them through memories, I get them through reflections, I get them through insights, I get them through playing with a dog or get them through looking at a sunrise. So what is it? What is this inspiration we're talking about? You could say it's God."
