McCaul: Lone Wolf Attacks 'Can Happen Anywhere, Any Time, Any Place'

By    |   Sunday, 19 July 2015 12:44 PM

The attack by a lone wolf shooter in Chattanooga last week that left five members of the military dead shows the challenge faced by federal officials in stopping such incidents, says Rep. Mike McCaul, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.

"If it can happen in Chattanooga, it can happen anywhere, any time, any place," McCaul said Sunday on ABC's "This Week."

Muhammad Youssuf Abdulazeez was shot dead by police on Thursday after shooting at a military recruitment center then driving to a training base where the killings occurred.

McCaul said officials are doing a good job of stopping terror attacks, but their job is becoming increasingly difficult as the Islamic State (ISIS) uses Twitter to inspire such lone wolves.

"We have 200,000 ISIS tweets per day," McCaul said. "The chatter is so loud and the volume is so high that it's a problem that's very hard to stop and disrupt in this country."
