A pro-gun group likens former New York City Mayor Michael
Bloomberg to Satan for his campaign against gun ownership, after his comment that his efforts have earned God's approval.
"I am telling you, if there is a God, when I get to heaven I'm not stopping to be interviewed,"
Bloomberg told The New York Times. "I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It's not even close."
The Gun Owners of America group disagrees.
"Bloomberg gets it really, really wrong," the group wrote.
"So, guess what, in this Easter week, we note that even Satan quotes Scripture when he has no choice."
GOA was referring to the biblical account of Satan citing scripture in an effort to tempt Jesus.
Bloomberg made his claims about his place in heaven after announcing that
he is spending $50 million to create a new gun-control group to rival the National Rifle Association.
However, the GOA argues that Jesus was not against owning weapons and that there are other Bible passages that prove that God opposed arms control.
"Wow, if he thinks he's blessed because of his efforts to disarm the public, he should consider passages [in the Old Testament] where arms control was considered a curse; and [the New Testament], where Jesus told His disciples to sell their cloaks and buy a sword (if they didn't already have one)," the group said.
"Does he really think that he can buy his way into heaven because of the millions he's spent on 'social issues'?" GOA added.
