Former first lady Melania Trump fanned the flames of conspiracy surrounding the assassination attempt on her husband and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, saying efforts need to be made to "uncover the truth."
Melania Trump made the comments in a 34-second video posted to X on Tuesday while promoting her new memoir, "Melania."
"The attempt to end my husband's life was a horrible, distressing experience," she begins. "Now, the silence around it feels heavy. I can't help but wonder: Why didn't law enforcement officials arrest the shooter before the speech?
"There's definitely more to this story, and we need to uncover the truth," she added.
Trump was injured, a rallygoer was killed and two other spectators were injured when Thomas Crooks fired at the former president on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania. A bipartisan task force was formed in the House to detail the myriad failures that led to Crooks getting off eight shots from a rooftop approximately 164 yards before being shot dead by counter snipers.
The incident led to the resignation of then-Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, five agents being placed on leave, and then Tuesday, assistant director Michael Plati reportedly being asked to retire over the ordeal.
