Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly's newly released book "Settle for More" is not settling for the low one-star reviews it is being slammed with on Amazon.com, as the website has been actively scrubbing the reviews, apparently from "trolls" who likely have not read the book, The Daily Beast reports.
The memoir talks about Kelly's decision several years ago to make her life more of what she wanted it to be, but much of the attention is being focused on the last several months in which she talks about her public dust-up with now President-elect Donald Trump and her role in Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes' resignation this past summer.
Upon the release of Kelly's book on Tuesday, the pro-Trump Reddit group "The Donald" urged its members to slam the book with negative reviews, and they did just that, putting hundreds of one-star reviews up and drawing down the overall ranking of the book.
But Amazon actively deletes such coordinated attack reviews, and the rankings and reviews have see-sawed ever since. According to the Beast, the total numbers of reviews was 468 at one point, then went down to 138. Late Wednesday, there were only 42 reviews remaining with 69 percent giving five-star reviews and 19 percent giving only one star.
"It has the hallmarks of an orchestrated effort to discredit the book and our author Megyn Kelly," Tina Andreadis, senior vice president and director of publicity for HarperCollins, the book's publisher told the Los Angeles Times. "We have brought it to the attention of Amazon."
One Reddit user noticed, and urged, "AMAZON JUST REMOVED ALL NEGATIVE REVIEWS FROM MEGYN KELLY'S BOOK! KEEP GIVING IT ONE STAR!"
Most reviews were attacks on Kelly herself rather than mentioning anything specifically written in the book.
One review called it a "horrible, bullying, hit piece. Megyn would have you believe she is an author, a journalist, and a victim when in reality she is a talentless shill who made it her mission to attack the 45th President of the United States. I have not watched her on FOX since she went out to end President Trumps campaign. Having failed she went Brittany. Lopped off her hair and hid in a closet for a week. She needs to go away. I included a photo of the moment she realized Trump had been elected."
Kelly appeared Wednesday on Fox News' "Shepard Smith Reporting" to talk about the book, saying that she was bullied as a child, but doesn't term Trump's attempts to intimidate her as bullying since they did not succeed.
She admitted that she was at times afraid for her safety, but said, she "never changed my coverage because of his threats or his attention."
