Former Defense Official: White House Leakings a 'Whole New Art Form'

By    |   Wednesday, 07 August 2013 11:43 AM EDT

Former Defense Department spokeswoman K.T. McFarland Wednesday described the leaking of information from the Obama administration as "a whole new art form."

"I've been in various administrations, and leaks are usually something that are bad things. Somebody is talking about something that embarrasses the president.  In this case, in this administration, they have put leaking into a whole new art form," McFarland said on "Fox & Friends."

"They leak stuff they want to make the president look strong. On the other hand, the stuff that makes him look bad, that stuff you cannot find. That is buried so deep," said the former Reagan official and Fox News contributor.

"Whether it is Fast and Furious, whether it is Benghazi, whether it is the NSA, you are never getting the information out of them," she said.

McFarland questioned the reasoning behind one of the latest leaks, where conversations of terrorist leaders led to the closing of 19 U.S. embassies and consulates around the world.

"We'll wait and see what happens with this. If there is nothing that happens, we'll really have to say, 'Why did you give up this information?' We'll have to say, 'You blew contacts, you blew sources and methods. Was it merely to distract us from other issues?'" McFarland said.
