First it was Brexit, then Donald Trump and now perhaps the Socialist direction of France might be facing a change, as National Front leader Marine Le Pen had a commanding lead in the latest French presidential poll, according to the UK's Independent.

The paper cited an Ipsos poll  in which the far-right leader Le Pen has garnered 29 percent of the vote, an eight-point lead over Les Républicains' Nicolas Sarkozy (center-right) and a 15-point lead over Parti de Gauche's Jean-Luc Mélenchon (party of the left).

"If Trump is possible, then everything is possible. Nothing, from now on, is unimaginable," Bernard-Henri Levy, a French philosopher, told The Telegraph.

"As for Le Pen it is unlikely that she wins but it is possible, and that is partly because the people have lost interest in policy, instead focusing on personality. The people listen less and less to policy and they even seem less concerned about whether the candidates are telling the truth or not.

"They are more interested in the performance, in the theatrical quality of what is said than whether it is true. And as we know, a fascist can put on a very successful performance."

Le Pen took over the lead of the National Front in 2011, the far-right party in France founded by her father. She has been distancing herself from his father's hate speech and contesting crimes against humanity, for which he had been convicted, according to the Independent.

She is running on an anti-immigration platform and draws parallel's to the movements toward the right of Brexit and Trump's U.S. election Nov. 8.

"He [Donald Trump] made possible what had previously been presented as impossible," she told BBC's Andrew Marr, per the Independent.

“So it's really the victory of the people against the elites. If I can draw a parallel with France, then yes, I wish that in France also the people upend the table, around which the elites are dividing up what should go to the French people."

France's current president is Franois Hollande of the Socialist Party.
