Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., is slamming President Joe Biden's Cuba policy after the administration announced it was easing some restrictions on the island nation.
Rubio made his comments in a Monday tweet. He wrote: "The regime in #Cuba threatened Biden with mass migration and have sympathizers inside the administration and the result is today we see the first steps back to the failed Obama policies on Cuba."
AFP reported the Biden administration's announcement eases the restrictions imposed during former President Donald Trump's administration on travel to Cuba and on the sending of family remittances between the U.S. and the communist nation.
"The Cuban people are confronting an unprecedented humanitarian crisis and our policy will continue to focus on empowering the Cuban people to help them create a future free from repression and economic suffering," the State Department said.
The State Department's statement also noted the U.S. "is taking a series of measures to increase support for the Cuban people in line with our national security."
