The Mandalay Bay security guard shot by Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock said the hallway door to the 32nd floor where Paddock's hotel room was had been blocked with a metal bracket, something "just out of the ordinary, not normal."

In Wednesday's episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," Jesus Campos recounted for the first time what happened the night of the worst mass shooting in modern American history. Paddock killed 58 and injured nearly 500 concertgoers when he fired into a country music festival from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay.

Campos was injured by Paddock before the mass shooting started.

The guard said he called security dispatch to report the blocked door when he heard drilling sounds.

"As I was walking down, I heard rapid fire. And at first, I took cover. I felt a burning sensation. I went to go lift my pant leg up and I saw the blood. That's when I called it in on my radio that shots have been fired," said Campos, who was shot in the leg.

"And I was going to say that I was hit, but I got on my cell just to clear the radio traffic so they could coordinate the rest of the call."

Mandalay Bay engineer Stephen Schuck, who appeared on the show with Campos, said he went to the 32nd floor to look at the door and said he initially thought he heard jackhammers when the gunfire began.

"As an engineer, I thought, 'we are not working up here late at night. We wouldn't be doing that,'" said Schuck, who added the wounded Campos yelled at him to take cover.
