Report: Long Island Teachers Rake in More Than $160K Annually

The average annual salary for a teacher in the Central Islip school district on Long Island tops $160,000 per year, according to the Education Action Group.

The compensation figures in the school year 2015-2016 for the 524 Central Islip teachers, according to EAG:

  • Average salary of $121,000.
  • Average benefits of $24,000.
  • Average retirement of $16,000.
  • Average compensation package of $161,000.

According to EAG, a Michigan-based outfit with a stated goal of "sensible education reform," that's nearly $41,000 more than the average base teacher salary.

The cost of living index in Central Islip is 9 percent higher than the average in New York and 32 percent higher nationally.
