After special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe found no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, Republicans are going on the offensive with Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham saying he plans to investigate whether the Justice Department and FBI influenced the 2016 election to stop Donald Trump, Politico reported on Tuesday.

Arguing that the issue has not been appropriately looked into in comparison to the Trump campaign's interactions with Russian officials, Graham said he also hopes to convince Attorney General William Barr to appoint a second special counsel.

Graham specifically cited the decisions made to surveil the Trump campaign in 2016 and its handling of the uncorroborated Steele Dossier, saying “I’m going to get answers to this… if the shoe were on the other foot, it would be front page news all over the world. The double standard here has been striking and quite frankly disappointing.”

The South Carolina senator urged Barr to “understand for the country’s sake: Appoint somebody outside the current system to look into these allegations, somebody we all trust and let them do what Mr. Mueller did.”

Graham said he also expects Barr to come for a public hearing to talk about his handling of the Mueller report. Graham added that he will defer to Barr on whether Mueller should also appear before the committee.
