Lindsey Graham: ISIS Recruiting Aided If Kobani Falls

By    |   Wednesday, 08 October 2014 08:21 PM EDT

The embattled Syrian town of Kobani was aided Wednesday by U.S.-led airstrikes against the Islamic State (ISIS), but Sen. Lindsey Graham says that if Kobani falls it will increase the likelihood of a terrorist attack on U.S. soil.

"If that town falls, thousands will be slaughtered," the South Carolina Republican said Wednesday on Fox News Channel's "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren."

"President Obama's strategy of half-measures is making it much more likely that America will be hit by another terrorist attack."

Graham, along with fellow Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona, have been calling for American ground troops to back up the airstrike effort.

Graham told Van Susteren that if the Islamic State takes Kobani it will be able to recruit even more jihadists from America and Europe who can then return to their home countries and launch attacks.

Graham also responded to former President Jimmy Carter's recent criticism of Obama's failure to act sooner against the Islamic State.

"I don't know when you hit bottom on foreign policy, but when you're being criticized by Jimmy Carter you're pretty damn close," Graham said.
