Lindsey Graham: Iran Nuke Deal Will Push Region to Armageddon

By    |   Thursday, 26 March 2015 08:36 PM

A nuclear deal with Iran will have cataclysmic results, with Arab neighbors all wanting to play catch-up, Sen. Lindsey Graham told Fox News.

Appearing Thursday on Fox News Channel's "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren," the South Carolina Republican called an Associated Press report that the deal would allow for increased enrichment in a once-secret fortified facility "very disturbing."

The nuclear talks, under fire from members of both parties in Congress for bypassing legislative approval, are taking place amid increased Iranian influence in the Middle East.

"There is about to be a Sunni-Shia war throughout the entire region, and we still negotiate with Iran as if nothing had happened," Graham said. "The Arabs are not going to accept such a deal, and they will get a bomb of their own. Then you are on the road to Armageddon. This is dangerous."

He said the plan to have U.N. inspectors ensure compliance will be just as disastrous as it was with North Korea.

"This whole idea of allowing them to enrich at the bottom of a mountain impervious to conventional attack is going to drive the Arabs and the Israelis crazy," he said.
